Halo CME MailHalo CME Mail Date: Wed, 7 Jan 2004 18:33 From: Guillermo Stenborg Subject: Partial Halo CME on 2004/01/07, frontsided UCMEO 93001 40107 2230/ 40107 61006 91342 3551/ 177// 323// 31770 40107 61014 81124 17506 ///// 1122/ 99999 PLAIN BT LASCO/EIT observed a partial halo CME on 2004/01/07. The event was first observed in C2 at 10:06 UT as a loop front emerging from the East limb slightly North of Equator. Following frames show a well defined loop with strong cavity and inner core spanning ~182 deg from PA 355 - 177 as measure in C3 at 12:18 UT. The mean plane-of-sky speed for this event averaged 1770 km/s measured at PA 65 based on C2 and C3 data. Note that at 11:06 UT another CME at the position of the northern leg of the previous CME (in C2) seems to come out (only a couple of images at the time of the analysis, i.e., 17:00 UT). The CME was probably associated with an M8.3 X-ray flare from an still unnumbered AR located N06E75 which GOES records between 10:14 - 10:33 UT with peak emission at 10:27 UT. EIT/Fe XII images show a sudden brightening at the aforementioned region at 10:24 UT. An EIT wave was observed in association with this event. This event has therefore been determined frontsided. Movies and images of this event will shortly be available at: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20040107 Please note that the report was slightly delayed in sending due to transition cross-references.
