LASCO and EIT observed a partial halo CME on 2003/11/13.
The event was first observed in C2 at 09:30 UT as a bright
loop front over the E limb; by 10:30 UT the front spanned
~180 deg from PA 340 - 180. The front first appeared in
C3 images at 10:20 UT with maximal coverage of the C3
occultor by 11:18 UT. The mean plane-of-sky speed for
this event was 1085 km/s at PA 85, with possible evidence
for modest acceleration.
The CME was probably associated with an M1.4 X-ray flare
observed by EIT between 09:00 - 09:36 UT, centered at
N05E75 with peak emission at 09:12 UT. GOES records this
flare from AR 0501 between 09:03 - 10:02 UT with peak
emission at 09:29 UT. A very large EIT wave, and dimming,
were observed in association with this event and in fact
can be detected as far as W18 in the N. This event has
therefore been determined frontsided. Note that AR 0501
is probably the reappearance of old AR 0484.
Movies and images of this event will shortly be
available at:

Gareth Lawrence.
