Halo CME MailHalo CME Mail Date: Tue, 21 Oct 2003 18:03 From: Gareth Lawrence Subject: Full Halo CME on 2003/10/21, backsided LASCO observed a full halo CME on 2003/10/21. A bright wide loop front was first visible in the SE from 03:54 UT and had developed into a full halo CME by 04:54 UT, albeit rather faint in the W. The front first appeared in C3 at 04:18 UT and had developed into a full halo CME by 04:42 UT. The EIT images between ~03:30 - 04:30 UT clearly show a major eruptive event close to but over the SE limb, especially when viewed as a running difference movie. This event has therefore been determined backsided. EIT full-disk and running difference movies are available at ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20031021 Note that all six movies have been made with full-resolution 1024x1024 images and therefore the uncompressed mvi files are very large (~29 MB). High- and lower-resolution mpgs have also been provided. Please note also that the usual color tables and bytescaling have not necessarily been used, so the movies may appear slightly different to usual. Best wishes, Gareth Lawrence. +----------PLEASE NOTE NEW EMAIL ADDRESS-----------+ Gareth Lawrence, grl@grace.nascom.nasa.gov SOHO-LASCO Operations Scientist, CUA, MC 682.3, Bldg 26, Rm 001, F: +1-301-286-0264 NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD 20771.
