Halo CME MailHalo CME Mail Date: Mon, 16 Jun 2003 19:34 From: Gareth Lawrence Subject: 'Full Halo CME' on 2003/06/15, probably frontsided UCMEO 93001 30616 2315/ 30615 62354 90342 0001/ 360// 233// 42002 30615 62348 90024 27805 10386 1222/ 99999 PLAIN BT LASCO and EIT observed a 'full halo CME' on 2003/06/15. The event was first observed in C2 at 23:54 UT as a bright loop front over the E limb; this had developed to a full halo CME by 00:30 UT, albeit faint in the E. The front first appeared in C3 at 00:18 UT with full coverage of the C3 occultor by 01:42 UT. The mean plane-of-sky speed for this event was 2002 km/s at PA87 , with possible evidence for moderate deceleration, though this could easily be due to significant measurement errors of the faint front far into the C3 field of view. The CME was probably most associated with an X1.3 X-ray flare observed by EIT between 23:48 - 00:24 UT, centered at S05E78 with peak emission at 00:00. GOES records this flare from AR 0386 (probably old AR 0365) at S07E80 between 23:25 - 00:25 UT with peak emission at 23:56 UT. No obvious EIT wave nor dimming were observed in association with this event. Considering the location of the flare and the faint emission in the W hemisphere this event has been determined probably frontsided. Movies and images of this event are available at: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20030615 Apologies for the rather late sending of this report. I am attending the AAS-SPD meeting in Laurel, MD all week. If similar activity continues from AR 0386, please bear in mind that these reports will not appear until late in the day.
