Halo CME Mail Date: Mon, 28 Oct 2002 11:39 From: Gareth Lawrence Subject: Full Halo CME on 2002/10/27, backsided ------------------------------------------------------------------------ LASCO observed a full halo CME on 2002/10/27. A bright loop front was observed filling the SE quadrant at 23:26 UT, later spanning ~220 deg from the SW over the S pole and almost reaching up to the N pole by 23:50 UT. Faint extensions were visible in the rest of the field of view. EIT observed an eruptive filament in the NE between 22:00 - 22:36 UT and this event can clearly be seen in LASCO as a fairly modest CME in the NE of the field of view the 22:36 UT image. Then between the 22:26 and 23:12 UT EIT images (whilst a C3 color sequence was being taken) a large loop system vanished from behind the SE limb. It is this eruptive event that we consider to be associated with the halo CME, rather than the earlier prominence. The halo CME has therefore been determined backsided.
