Halo CME Mail Date: Tue, 28 May 2002 16:22 From: Gareth Lawrence Subject: Partial Halo CME on 2002/05/27, frontsided ------------------------------------------------------------------------ UCMEO 93001 20527 2130/ 20527 61327 91818 3301/ 130// 233// 41187 20527 61224 91325 11826 0//// 2122/ 99999 PLAIN BT LASCO and EIT observed a partial halo CME on 2002/05/27. The event was first observed in C2 at 13:27 UT as a wide, bright loop front over the NE limb, but well into C2's field of view, spanning ~160 deg from PA 330 (W) to PA 130 (NE). The front first appeared in C3 at 13:42 UT with maximal coverage of the C3 occultor by 14:18 UT. The mean plane of sky speed of the front was measured as 1186 km/s at PA 18 (NE) with a very slight acceleration through the coronagraphs' fields of view. The CME was most probably associated with an eruptive prominence centred around N26E18. EIT observed the event between 12:24 UT and 13:25 UT, with peak emission at 12:36 UT. SEC reports two small (C-class) X-ray events from an un-numbered active region within this region of the solar disk before and after the prominence eruption. An EIT wave but no dimming was observed in association with this event, and the wave was very limited in its extent and intensity. Images and movies of this event are available at: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20020527 Best wishes, Gareth Lawrence. ++ | Gareth Lawrence, E-mail:grl@kreutz.nascom.nasa.gov | | SOHO-LASCO Operations Scientist, | | CUA, Mail Code 682.3, | | NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Phone: +1-301-286-2941 | | Building 26, Room G-1, +1-301-286-3447 | | Greenbelt, MD 20771.
