Halo CME Mail Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2001 16:41 From: Gareth Lawrence Subject: Partial Halo CME on 2001/11/28 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ UCMEO 93001 11128 2130/ 11128 61706 82042 2201/ 068// 223// 40439 11128 61612 91700 11604 09715 1112/ 99999 PLAIN BT LASCO and EIT observed a partial halo CME on 2001/11/28. The event was first observed in C2 at 17:06 UT as a very narrow loop front over the NE limb; by 17:54 UT this front spanned about 208 deg around the C2 occulting disk from PA 220 to PA 68. The front first appeared in C3 at 18:18 UT with maximal coverage of the C3 occultor by 19:42 UT. The plane of sky speed of the front was measured as 439 km/s at PA 18 (NE) with very small deceleration through the coronagraphs' fields of view. Please note that at the time of writing C3 data was only available to a distance of about 15 Rs. The CME was most probably associated with a M6.9 X-ray flare in AR9715 between 16:26 and 16:41 UT with peak emission at 16:35 UT. EIT observed this flare between 16:12 and 17:00 UT, with peak emission at 16:36 UT. SEC places the flare at N04E16. Both an EIT wave and dimming were observed in association with this event. Images and movies of this event are available at: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/2001128 Best wishes, Gareth Lawrence. ++ | Gareth Lawrence, E-mail:grl@kreutz.nascom.nasa.gov | | SOHO-LASCO Operations Scientist, | | CUA, Mail Code 682.3, | | NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Phone: +1-301-286-2941 | | Building 26, Room G-1, +1-301-286-3447 | | Greenbelt, MD 20771.
