Halo CME Mail Date: Sat, 20 Oct 2001 16:57 From: Gareth Lawrence Subject: Full Halo CME on 2001/10/19, second event ------------------------------------------------------------------------ UCMEO 93001 11020 2200/ 11019 61650 92348 0001/ 360// 233// 30705 11019 61612 91724 42915 09661 1112/ 99999 PLAIN BT LASCO and EIT observed another full halo CME on 2001/10/19. The event was first observed in C2 at 16:50 UT as a bright loop front over the W limb; by 17:26 UT the C2 occulting disk was surrounded. The front first appeared in C3 at 17:18 UT with full coverage of the C3 occultor by 18:18 UT. The plane of sky speed of the front was measured as 704 km/s at PA 279 (W) with slight deceleration through both coronagraphs' fields of view. The CME was most probably associated with an X1.6 X-ray flare in AR9661 between 16:13 and 16:43 UT with peak emission at 16:30 UT. EIT observed the flare between 16:12 and 17:24 UT with peak emission at 16:24 UT, and bright post-CME loops are visible after 17:24 UT. SEC places the flare at N15W29. An EIT wave and dimming were observed in association with this event. Images and movies of this event are available at: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20011019b and please note that the images and movies from the earlier event on this day have been successfully restored to the URL noted in the earlier alert.
