Halo CME Mail Date: Tue, 9 Oct 2001 16:49 From: Gareth Lawrence Subject: Halo CME on 2001/10/05, backsided ------------------------------------------------------------------------ LASCO observed a full/wide partial hallo CME on 2001/10/05. An initially narrow, slow front was first observed in the SW at 09:06 UT. This front was subsequently overtaken by a wider, faster front which first appeared in the SW at 10:06 UT. By 11:06 the front spanned about 170 degrees from PA 120 to PA 290, with fainter extensions in the NE and over the N pole. The front first appeared in C3 in the SW at 10:42 UT with maximal coverage by 11:42. The EIT movies clearly show a large backsided CME, primarily over the SW limb. Frontsided activity was very low in both EIT and GOES. This event has therefore been determined backsided. Apologies for the late notification of this event. The images all fell within a telemetry gap that was not filled until after the holiday weekend. Best wishes, Gareth Lawrence. ++ | Gareth Lawrence, E-mail:grl@kreutz.nascom.nasa.gov | | SOHO-LASCO Operations Scientist, | | CUA, Mail Code 682.3, | | NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Phone: +1-301-286-2941 | | Building 26, Room G-1, +1-301-286-3447 | | Greenbelt, MD 20771.
