Halo CME Mail Date: Thu, 4 Oct 2001 10:32 From: Gareth Lawrence Subject: Partial Halo CME on 2001/10/03, backsided ------------------------------------------------------------------------ LASCO observed another large partial halo CME on 2001/10/03, in addition to the one reported yesterday. A bright loop front was first observed in C2 in the N and NW at 15:30 UT; this front spanned 200 deg over both the E and W limbs by 17:06. Additionally a very faint extension, probably a shock could be seen over the S pole. The bright front first appeared in C3 at 16:16 UT with maximal coverage by 19:45. There is no significant activity observed on-disk by EIT, but very faint emission can be seen over the N and NW limb between 13:48 and 15:24 UT. This is consistent with a backsided source some way from the limb; thus this event has been determined backsided.
