Halo CME Mail Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 12:42 From: Gareth Lawrence Subject: Full Halo CME, 2001/02/15 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ UCMEO 93001 10216 1730/ 10215 61354 92218 0001/ 360// 333// 40601 10215 61236 91512 11607 0//// 3112/ 99999 PLAIN BT LASCO and EIT observed a full halo CME on 2001/02/11. The event was first observed in C2 at 13:54 UT, as a bright loop front over the NE limb. At 14:30 this bright front extended from about PA 275 to PA 90, while fainter extensions could be seen around the remainder of the C2 occulting disk. The north-westerly front first appeared in C3 at 14:42 and the the occulting disk was surrounded by 16:18. The plane-of-sky speed of the leading edge through to the edge of the C3 field of view was about 610 km/s at PA 16 (NE limb). The CME was probably associated with an eruptive filament observed near disk center by EIT between 12:36 and 15:12 UT. The center of the region first visibly affected was N07E12 though the greater part of EIT activity appeared somewhat to the N and E of this, consistent with the first appearance of the CME over the NE limb. This site of origin was somewhat to the S and W of AR 9350 but unconnected to it. There were no GOES signatures associated with this event. Images and movies of this event are available at: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20010215.
