Halo CME Mail Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2001 13:59 From: Gareth Lawrence Subject: BACKSIDED halo CME 2001/02/10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ LASCO observed a very faint full halo CME on 2001/02/10. A front was first visible in C2 at 05:54 UT, over the N Pole. By 07:31 a faint extension was visible around the entire C2 occulting disk, with that in the N hemisphere significantly brighter than in the S. The northerly front first appeared in C3 at 06:42, with full coverage by 09:42. EIT observed a small, bright CME on the N West of the disk at 05:24 and this CME is visible in C2 by 06:30 as a small bright feature trailing the main front. However, a great deal of backsided activity was determinable in EIT difference movies between 02:24 - 02:28, 04:30 - 05:24 and 06:12 - 06:36. Additionally the only GOES X-ray events around this time have not been attributed to any active regions, suggesting they may have been backsided events. They were also small events (C2 and 1.4). As a result this event has been determined backsided.
