Halo CME Mail Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2001 13:57 From: Gareth Lawrence Subject: Full halo CME on 2000/01/28 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ UCMEO 93001 10126 1830/ 10128 61554 92318 0001/ 360// 333// 40795 10128 61524 81712 35904 09313 1212/ 99999 PLAIN BT LASCO and EIT observed a full halo CME on 2001/01/28. The event was first observed in C2 at 15:54 UT, as a bright loop front over the W limb. At 17:30 this bright front extended from about PA 180 to PA 30, while fainter extensions could be seen around the remainder of the C2 occulting disk. The plane-of-sky speed of the leading edge through to the edge of the C3 field of view was about 795 km/s at PA 257 (W limb). The CME was probably associated with a M3.0 flare from AR 9313, located at about S04 W59. EIT observed this flare at 15:24. Much of the associated activity in EIT was very close to the W limb. Images and movies of this event are available at: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20010128. Best wishes, Gareth Lawrence. NB Simon Plunkett has moved to a different project, and I have taken over as LASCO Operations Scientist. Questions and queries regarding halo CME alerts and other aspects of the LASCO dataset should be directed to me in future, though Simon will retain his research interests. ++ | Gareth Lawrence, E-mail:grl@ajcannon.nascom.nasa.gov | | CUA, Mail Code 682.3, | | NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Phone: +1-301-286-3412 | | Building 26, Room G-1, +1-301-286-3447 | | Greenbelt, MD 20771.
