Halo CME Mail Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2000 23:16:03 +0000 (GMT) From: Simon Plunkett Subject: Full halo CME on 2000/11/26 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ UCMEO 93001 01126 2310/ 01126 61706 92142 0001/ 360// 133// 40869 01126 61648 81800 43021 09236 1112/ 99999 PLAIN BT LASCO and EIT observed a full halo CME today, 2000/11/26. The event was first seen in C2 at 17:06 UT, as a bright front over the W limb. It later became a full halo, although it was fainter in the E than in the W. The measured speed in the plane of the sky was 869 km/s at PA 270 (W limb). EIT observed an X4.0 flare, with associated dimming and probably a wave, from AR 9236 (N21 W30), begginning at about 16:48 UT. Images and movies of this event are available at the LASCO ftp server: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20001126b. Best wishes, Simon Plunkett. PS There may have been an earlier halo today, associated with the M2.2 flare also from AR 9236 at 02:47 UT. However, this event occurred during a gap in DSN contact with SOHO, so these data are not yet available. PPS Reports on the events of late on 11/24 and on 11/25 will follow. It seemed more prudent to get the report on the latest event out first! ++ | Simon Plunkett, E-mail: plunkett@kreutz.nascom.nasa.gov | | USRA, Mail Code 682.3, | | NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Phone: +1-301-286-2941 | | Building 26, Room G-1, +1-301-286-3447 | | Greenbelt, MD 20771.
