Halo CME Mail Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2000 23:09:40 +0000 (GMT) From: Simon Plunkett Subject: Full halo CME on 2000/11/24 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ UCMEO 93001 01125 2310/ 01124 60530 91242 0001/ 360// 733// 40711 01124 60500 80600 10621 09236 1112/ 99999 PLAIN BT As reported yesterday, LASCO and EIT observed a full halo CME on 2000/11/24. The event was first seen in C2 at 05:30 UT as a bright front over the NW limb, and became a full halo extending over 360 degrees. The measured speed in the plane of the sky was an average of 711 km/s at PA 330 (NW limb), through the C2 and C3 fields of view. The speed may have been higher at lower altitudes, and there may be some deceleration in C3. EIT observed a X2.0 flare and wave event from AR 9236 (located at N21 E06), beginning at 05:00 UT. This major event was preceded by several hours of bright jets from the same region. Images and movies of this event can be found at the LASCO ftp server: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20001124a.
