Halo CME Mail Date: Thu, 16 Nov 2000 17:22:37 +0000 (GMT) From: Simon Plunkett Subject: Backside halo event on 2000/11/15 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ LASCO observed a full halo CME late yesterday, 2000/11/15. The event was first visible over the N pole in C2 at 23:54 UT, and later became a very symmetrical and bright full halo. The lack of associated activity in EIT images suggests that this was a backside event. This alert is being sent because the event was bright enough to be visible in the daily movies posted on our web site. EIT observed a flare and wave event from AR 9231 located in the SE quadrant of the disk, beginning at about 00:12 UT on 11/16. This event is too late to be associated with the halo, but did produce another CME. It is very difficult to separate these events in the LASCO images.
