Halo CME Mail Date: Fri, 1 Sep 2000 22:13:17 +0000 (GMT) From: Simon Plunkett Subject: Partial halo CME on 09/01/2000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ LASCO and EIT observed a partial halo CME today, 09/01/2000. The event was first visible as a ragged loop front above the SW limb at 06:30 in C2. It later extended from PA 175 (S pole) to PA 330 (NW limb), a total angular extent of about 155 degrees. The measured speed of the leading edge in the plane of the sky at PA 250 (SW limb) was 375 km/s. EIT observed a wave event in AR 9143, located at about S18 W23, beginning at about 04:36 UT. The wave was accompanied by dimming to the NW of the active region. This may be the source of the CME described above. Another partial halo was observed earlier, beginning at about 04:06 UT in C2. EIT observations show that this was a backside event from behind the SE limb. Images and movies of this event are available at the LASCO ftp server: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20000901.
