Halo CME Mail Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 22:23:09 +0000 (GMT) From: Simon Plunkett Subject: Halo CME on 2000/07/11 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ LASCO and EIT observed a full halo CME today, 2000/07/11. The event was first visible in C2 at 13:27 UT, as a bright front extending all around the occulting disk. The brightest part of the event was in the NE, and the faintest was in the SW. The measured speed of the leading edge was 1040 km/s at PA 60 (NE limb). EIT did not observe the onset of the CME, as it was not observing in full-disk mode at the time. However, on resuming full-disk observations in 195 A at 13:13 UT, EIT observed an X1 flare in AR 9077. The CME was probably associated with this flare. Images and movies of this event are available at the LASCO ftp server: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20000711.
