From plunkett@kreutz.nascom.nasa.gov Wed May 31 19:14:07 2000 Date: Wed, 31 May 2000 16:02:32 +0000 (GMT) From: Simon Plunkett Subject: Partial halo CME on 2000/05/31 LASCO and EIT observed a partial halo CME today, 2000/05/31. The event was first visible as a diffuse front over the N pole in C2 at 08:06 UT. It developed to an angular extent of at least 135 degrees, from PA 340 (NW limb) over the N pole to PA 115 (SE limb). There may be a faint extension further along the SE limb as well. The measured speed of the leading edge in the plane of the sky at PA 30 (NE limb) was 362 km/s. EIT observed a filament eruption from a location near central meridian, at about N20 E00, beginning at 06:48 UT. A bright post-eruption arcade was observed in this location following the filament eruption. Images and movies of this event are available at the LASCO ftp server: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20000531.
