Subject: Halo CME on 2000/02/12
LASCO and EIT observed a full halo CME on 2000/02/12. The event was first
visible as a bright front to the NW in C2 at 04:31 UT, and later extended
over all position angles. The appearance of this event in LASCO is
complicated by the presence of an earlier, brighter partial halo event on
the W limb that came from behind the disk. The measured speed of the
leading edge at PA 350 (near the N pole) was 870 km/s.
This event was associated with an M1 flare in AR 8858, located at N24 W25.
EIT observed the flare and associated large-scale dimming beginning at
04:13 UT.
Images and movies of this event are available at the LASCO ftp server:
ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20000212.
Best wishes,
Simon Plunkett.
